Features of multilayer Fabric
3D orthogonal multilayer fabrics are made from alkali-free glass, as well as high-performance fibers such as S-glass and aramid. They feature yarns in three directions. Apart from the Z-joining yarns, the warp and weft yarns remain naturally direct in the fabric, maintaining the original mechanical properties of the fibers to the greatest extent possible. They, therefore, have the following characteristics.
Characteristics of multilayer fabric:
1. excellent resistance to damage, including impact resistance and low-speed impact resistance Compared to 2D laminates, 3D orthogonal fabrics show a significant improvement in interlayer stiffness and strength. 2.
2. excluding knotted yarns, warp and weft yarns remain naturally direct in the fabric, maintaining the original mechanical properties of the fibers to the greatest extent possible
3. The special processing method ensures a higher fiber volume content compared to multi-axial warp-knitted knitted fabrics, which contributes to the improved mechanical properties of the composite.
4. The simplicity of the forming process facilitates overall cost savings. Compared to 2D laminates, it saves a lot of labor and time when forming without the need for lay-up.
5. Faster infusion and easier infusion due to the direct alignment of the fibers and the presence of fibers along the Z-direction. Using RTM technology, 3D orthogonal multilayer fabrics can be infused several times faster than 2D fabrics.
6. The joining yarns in the multi-axial warp knitted fabric are made of high-performance polyester technical yarns, which have poorer binding properties to the resin than the glass fibers used as joining yarns in the 3D orthogonal multilayer fabric, and the molded composite has better mechanical properties as a result.
